The human body,
naked, exposed, vulnerable, interests me as a subject matter. It
is probably God's most fascinating creation.
From early
childhood I have drawn people. In dissection classes and surgery,
I was mesmerized by its design, structure and function. I prefer
drawing from life. The challenge of drawing a living, complex
person, who is ever changing, intrigues me.
The interplay of
light on the human form stirs me to creativity, but my perspective
as an artist is as a woman, and mother. I like to play around with
the non-conventional ideas of male and female roles. The female
form I choose to portray is erotic, sensual, defiant and masculine
in posture. The male form strikes a non-traditional sexual pose.
For years I worked
intensively in watercolors. In later years I broke free with oils.
The
textural element enhances the sensual nature of my work and the
vibrant colors satisfy my craving for color.
Sunshine and color are important for my well being so I
keep painting - for the pure immediacy and pleasure of it;
however, I still like to hold a pencil and draw. |
